In Pakistan, Rizwan made his debut in first-class cricket when he played a match against Australia in 2004. He was only 15 years old at the time. After a few matches for the Islamabad cricket team, Rizwan was selected to represent the national team of Pakistan in 2009.

He played some good innings in the T20 format and was selected for the Sri Lankan tour in Lahore. However, he was not able to score many runs in that series. Mohammad Rizwan made his first appearance at the ODI level in 2010. Since then, he has been performing well for the national team of Pakistan.

Rizwan scored his maiden first-class century (146 off 214 balls) against Hyderabad in October 2014. In November 2015, he has selected in Pakistan A squad for a tour of England.

He played in all six Pakistan A One Day International matches during the tour.

In February 2016, Rizwan was selected for the T20 series against New Zealand and made his One Day International debut in the final match of the series. He played an important role in the final match against West Indies by scoring 59 runs, which helped Pakistan win the title.

In September 2016, he was included in Pakistan’s Test squad for their series against Sri Lanka. He made his Test debut on the 28th of September 2016.

Rizwan also played for Quetta Gladiators in the first two editions of PSL, where he was captain of the team in 2017. In the same year, he was signed by Karachi Kings for the third edition of PSL.
