Arturo Erasmo Vidal Pardo was born on 22 May 1987 in the Chilean capital Santiago to his parents Erasmo Vida (father) and Jacqueline Pardo (mother). Arturo was raised in a working-class community in San Joaquin by his father, who worked as a shipper but is a drug addict and his mother who was a housekeeper.

As a young boy, Arturo lived in Penn. As a means of earning money, Arturo left school for a few days for a horse track in Santiago where he fed horses and cleaned the stables for a meager salary. Seeing that cleaning the horse stables would not give him enough money, Arturo turned to gambling.

Soon, Arturo called for football to get out of poverty. Chilean footballer like Marcelo Sales was a big inspiration for the young Arturo. His uncle noted his talent and thus connected him to the colo-colo, a club in the Primera Division.
